Bank of Nova Scotia - London

Location: 33 Finsbury Square, London
Size: 50,000 sq. ft

Brief Description:

The project comprised the refurbishment of the existing building.

Freeman Beesley were appointed to prepare designs and specifications for a complete new lighting installation compliant with the recommendations of the (then new) LG2 together with upgrades to the fire alarm system and air-conditioning.

All works were carried out with the Client in occupation.

Points of Interest:

The 3rd floor of the building is occupied by traders with intensive IT equipment loads - each workstation has 3 or 4 screens with 2 to 3 CPU's and the occupation density is around 1 person per 5m2.

The internal temperature conditions were unacceptable and the Bank's original brief to us was to replace the existing air conditioning.

Following an on-site survey and a series of test measurements we concluded that the capacity of the existing installation was adequate to meet the cooling loads but it was not setup or controlling correctly.

Therefore, we prepared a specification to have the system flushed, cleaned, rebalanced and re-commissioned and to add new controls to the existing fan coil units.

The successful outcome had the benefit of considerably reducing both the cost and the disruption to the bank.
